Japan, well known for it’s innovative, digital, creativity, has come up with a very novel ideas for material and craft artists. Picture a Kinko’s for people that want custom cut textiles! The Fab Cafe is a place where one may go, have a cup of coffee and then use their machines to laser cut paper, felt, acrylic, wood and a list of other materials. The price for the service is a little more expensive than getting copies at Staples, about $60 U.S. per half hour (but that can be split amongst friends). The process seems simple; bring in an Illustrator file, grab a cup of coffee and let the Universal Laser Systems VLS6.60 do the rest.

I love the idea of hands on creative art and think it would be a great idea to have a place like this in New York City. A one stop shop to do digital as well as analog creative pieces the same way we do Starbuck’s and get copies made.
